the Golden Ratio - Ad Layouts

I answer graphic design questions on www.allexperts.com.. Here's one.

Q: With reference to the golden ratio, I have heard that it can be used in advertising layouts to make the layout more effective. Can you tell me how to develop an ad layout in adobe using the golden ratio. How exactly do i apply the golden ratio to layout?

A:  It's all about balance. having the different elements (logo, image, contact info, etc.) of your layout mesh. I wouldn't get overwhelmed by all the technical terms. I recommend looking at professional ad layouts. The Golden Ratio is a rule of thumb for balance. If you Google the Golden Ratio and go to images it will show you what it is exactly. But I wouldn't recommended getting stuck on trying to fill in the blanks and ending up with every ad looking the same. You want to have a good bold header.. and one image/illustration, with copy and the call to action, contact info, etc. at the bottom. Picture a big backwards "Z" on your page and follow it with your layout. Remember, you only have 3 seconds to capture the viewers attention. Less is more.
